Business

While the highs are higher and the lows are lower than with a traditional job, I gain a lot of satisfaction from taking on the responsibility that entrepreneurship requires. The first two companies I launched are described below and I am always exploring new business opportunities. Recently, I’ve been working with a team of MBA students to provide business-plan services to start-ups and marketing strategies to existing companies.

The first company I launched is a product developer called LAB802, LLC. LAB802 is currently developing a vehicle borne digital imaging device, called the ABB, that maintains a visual record of events leading up to an accident.

The second company is called Boofsquire Roof Racks. Boofsquire is the first and only manufacturer of Roof Racks designed specifically for the Nissan 350Z. I designed and developed the product, branding, print materials, ad campaign, copy, packaging and launched the website in under two months.

LAB802 is currently developing a vehicle borne digital imaging device, called the ABB, that maintains a visual record of events leading up to an accident. An onboard accelerometer enables the ABB to automatically detect an accident and save a visual record of events surrounding the vehicle 30 seconds before and 30 seconds after an incident.

The ABB’s value is directly derived from its ability to protect the driver from liability or misplaced fault. Even in cases where the driver operating the ABB is at fault the recorded video can still help, by reducing additional liabilities.

The second iteration of the business plan was developed with two MBA students that now make up the LAB802 team. We used that business plan as the basis for a presentation that took First Place at the 2008 COX SMU Business Plan Competition in Dallas, Texas.

The ABB is designed for the consumer. It is simple to install and operate, requires no maintenance and is inexpensive when compared to alternative products. The market is subject to high growth an expected to reach $42.3 million in three years, with the possibility of it growing to several hundred million within ten years. LAB802, LLC has four patents pending in conjunction with the design of the ABB.
